Day of Birds and Trees at Kazinczy street -

On 10th May the places located in Kazinczy Street are joining forces to show that yes, it is worth working on creating a more liveable city; and how useful and proper it would be if certain streets – for example the Kazinczy – became pedestrian streets. On the Day of Birds and Trees the whole Kazinczy Street is going to be closed from traffic and several events are going to be organised by the variety of places in and out, waiting for the locals, tourists, the citizens of the 7th Association) about the programs on this whole day long festival Here are some of them in advance: connected to the day of the birds and trees, there is going to be tree planting and a birds’ show of course, there is going to be the launching ceremony of the street art map on the firewall of Wichmann pub and several art exhibitions are going to be opened that day. The well known and - not by chance – liked bike flea market is going to be in Szimpla Kert (with Goldsprint, Hungarian Bikers’ Club, BuBi, and Hungarian imaginative creators); there are going to be acoustic, world music and jazz concerts, some of the performers are: Bélaműhely, Iparkutya, Puszi, Lakatos Trió, dance performances by the Hungarian Dance Academy, tango show and course, fire jugglers and acrobats can be expected. The Harmony Choir is coming which is the representative of the classical music in the series of the events. The organisers
thought about the little ones too, there are going to be handcraft and creative workshops, a soap bubble blowing contest, a small motor skill competition, play house, theatre for children by the team of Szimpla Theatre. We do not want anybody to be thirsty or hungry so the places in the street lengthened their opening hours and prepared special gastro deals for that day. The Eating at Butchers Community is going to cook for charity. We are cooking the street’s already diverse culinary variety even more colourful. The organisers are still awaiting the applications of NGOs to introduce their activities to the public at this address: abel@szimpla.hu (Ábel Zsendovits).

The event is declared apolitical and non-profit, the aim is to enhance the reputation of Kazinczy Street and illustrate the car-free, pedestrian function district and whole city. We got information from the organisers (Azért7)

Festival in Kazinczy to welcome spring -

Now it is a tradition that a festival is organised to welcome spring by Azért7 Organisation in Kazinczy Street. It’s going to be on Easter Sunday (31st March) from 10 am to 8 pm.

The festival provides plenty of programs: music, games, poetry, cooking, bike, market, walking up and down and many others. But it is also organised to get support from more and more people to make Kazincy a pedestrian street, to change the current situation which is bad for everybody as we can experience it day by day. A few weeks ago a photo was posted on Szimpla’s Facebook page about the many cars that go along this small street where the pavement is not enough for two people to walk side by side. Many people commented on this picture. The Azért7 Organisation has been trying to change the flow of traffic since it was established. This is not only their idea but the bars’ and pubs’ and even the people who live here.

The festival will be held all along the street, cooperating and being supported by Kazimír, Mika Tivadar Mulató, Bobek, Kőleves, Téli Kertem and of course Szimpla Kert.

The music program certainly provides a wide range of genres. Many different bands, duos and solo musicians are going to perform. In front of Kazimír: Gyuszi Lakatos and Gyuri Orbán is making sure that the atmosphere is pleasant; in front of Szimpla: 2:30-3:30 Random Stripes, 4:00-5:00 Bélaműhely, 5:30-6:30 Adolphe Sax Konsort (Béla Ágoston’s quartet) + Bélaműhely and finally 7:00-8:00 Butterfly Effect.

And of course there is the usual Farmers’ Market in Szimpla Kert, which is open every Sunday from 9:00 until 2:00 since last June. You can do your weekly shopping or just drop in for a good lunch while supporting charity and see why the market got into the best 16 at Sozialmarie’s tender. The Hétkerék Bike Cellar is going to be present all day long with a smart guide for bikers and the Hungarian Cyclists’ Club is organising an programs for children all day long.

Festival for Ferenc Kazinczy and Sunday Farmers' Market

On 28th October during the last Szimpla festival this year the focus is on two seemingly distant things: Ferenc Kazinczy was born 253 years ago and the Szimpla Farmers' Market is one year old. Maybe they are not that far from each other as our most famous language reformer would be happy to see how many people get together to enjoy and buy so many kinds of delicacies and get engaged in friendly chatting while tasting them or learn something new or play music together for a whole day. We are really hoping that autumn, that we were looking forward to and celebrated with a festival not long ago, will be nice to us on this Sunday; so we could celebrate and enjoy the delicacies and greet the master from Széphalom in lovely and sunny weather.

What can be expected and be prepared for on the last Sunday of October? The Farmers' Market is open from 9 am. You can buy different products from more than 30 farmers. Every hour we are going to read aloud from Ferenc Kazinczy's work, poems, autographical pieces, memoirs, and funny works. We will recall the era when the language reform became a conscious effort. At 10 am the Bélaműhely's musical instrument caressing starts, and also the whole day long musical craze. So we would like to encourage everybody again that if you feel the power and the motivation, please bring your musical instrument and join the jam session. We thought about the little ones also, at 10:30 the Majorka Puppet Theatre performs Babszemjankó. An hour later the Napkerék Égszínház performs their fabulous soap opera.
The traditional Szimpla cauldron and communal cooking is waiting for you at noon. Lunch by Dizájnmenza (Design Canteen) and the Hentesnél evők baráti köre (Friends eating at butchers'). The income is used to buy food for a family in need and delivered by the Budapest Bike Maffia as usual. As charity was mentioned, let's not forget how great it would be if the Street of Culture was a pedestrian street. On Sunday please do not forget to take the time to sign our petition. We will make sure you won't miss the opportunity to help this initiative. You can visit the Hétkerék Szimpla Bringa Pince (Seven Wheels Bike basemant). Do you know how to put oil on your chains? Do you have a flat tire? Come and we are going to teach you the basic bike repairs. First we show you then it's your turn. You can learn about the most essential information about bikes, repairing, equipment, settings. The location is the shop at Kazincy St. 7. Registration is necessary. Please send an email to this address: szimplahetkerek@gmail.com

Péter Závada (poet, slammer) is our guest from1 pm. We are going to talk about modern language reform, the poetry of the 21st century, slamming and he is going to show what he can do with Hungarian. We are going to enjoy ourselves until 5 pm to celebrate these two events. If you are hiding a poem, short story, a song or anything that is connected with language reform, cooking something delicious in your drawer, or you have something that you want to show the world, please bring them with you.
