Szimpla Bars and street art in Berlin -

The 6th Szimpla Bar opened it’s gates in Berlin last September. All the previous experiences of Szimpla Café were needed for the new project: Badehaus Szimpla Musiksalon (Revalerstrasse 99). It doesn’t only function as a social space but also as a club. Szimpla Café Berlin have had an important role in organizing the cultural life of Hungarian Berliners. Remember the Karneval der Kulturen prize that we won last year? Badehaus is willing to take part in various activities, to adapt and show something new in a city where achieving such goals is quite a big challenge. The name Badehouse comes from the fact that the building used to be an erecting shop’s service-bathroom till it was closed. A huge cultural and entertainment area raised it’s head
and is being built, reorganized continouosly. Szimpla became part of all this after winning the tender at an investment company.
The first concert at Badehouse was held by Palya Bea, after this Gyass was playing (Felix Lajko’s band from Szabadka), than Nadara - Transylvanian Gipsy Wedding Band came from Marosvásárhely. After all this Macedonian Foltin ("pseudo-emigranski cabaretska") held a concert, also the Czeck Dva ("non-exist nations folklore") band appeared. There are Berliner artists also of course (Juri and the Gagarins, Whatever Rita Wants, the goodnight circus). We have weekly jam-sessions and piano nights. Anyways the entire neighborhood offers dozens of things to listen to, to watch, to live through. Badehaus is surrounded by other bars, terraces. 100 meters far from Badehaus there is a boulder-hall for lovers of climbing.

Don’t forget about the first Szimpla in Berlin. In case someone finds the café at Gärtnerstraße 15 (that is quite close to Badehouse) gets the real coffee-drinking Szimpla mood. The only difference is that we provide breakfast, cocktails and other specialties for our guests.

The facilities, the design is very ‘Szimpla’ although. We hope that similar spaces like Badehouse’s will be used the same way in Budapest as well (as there are a lot of such areas) and that groups like suppre-neopaint will turn the blank spaces to be exciting and nice.

If you visit Berlin don’t forget to pop in to the Berliner Szimpla bars!
