Outdoor Inhales: Multiple sport package in Transylvania -

Our group of four travelled to Transylvania by a car fully packed with equipment to the middle of the land of Székely’s. The location was a village, named Parajd. Out home and ’base camp’ was a wooden house with a fireplace at the edge of the village on the hill-side.

We started our trips from here. The highest peak we reached was the 1900 meters high Tóka peak in the Csalhó mountains. We got here on the given tracking route. We started off early, travelled 200 kilometers by car and hiked 1400 meter difference in level up and again 1400 meters down. Under the 1800 meters high summit the weather was so wonderful that we started shirt-sleeve bouldering.

Bouldering is a type of mountaineering. It consists of a row of grips and steps of different difficulties: all these steps and solutions are the so called ’stunts’. All this happens 4-5 meters high from the ground. Needs only a couple of gears: mounteneering shoes, a sack of magnesia, sometimes portable mattress to ease the falls. Those who’s been climbing together for long can catch each other also to ease the fall. The partner stands right under the climber with arms in the air watching the climber move, following the climber in case of locomotion while is always ready to catch the climber. The falling one should be catched by the armpit. Climbing like this on artificial wall in a climbing hall is also bouldering.

The Transylvanian hills and the shiny weather influenced the wind and didn’t let the paragliders stay in the trunk. Strings strained, paragliders opened and we slid down slowly in the air. Raising the wing it has to ’sit’ on the wind and using the two brake-strings and our legs staying under the wing we could continouosly control the paraglide and keep it in the air. Such a long arriving to the ground requires good phisical conditions.

Our slackline equipment also couldn’t have a rest for long. In such a breathtaking environment we started to balance and practice while the sun went down. Not much is needed for this sport: 2 big trees, nice weather, some food for picnic and time flies in good spirits.
Slackline is divided to three main branches. Tricklining happens on an average distance of 15 meters with a flexible strap. This means doing tricks on the strap. It includes everything from yoga-like motions to somersault jumps that is acrobatic and attractive. Those who can make a combo ie. combine different jumps to a row of motions and when jumping touch the strap only once are considered advanced slackliners. The other two branches are longline and highline. Former means getting through a very long strap 2-3 meters above the ground, latter means walking through a long strap that is fixed between two cliffs in a canyon. Highlining needs technical and engineering preparation as the highliner person is connected to the strap and in case of falling the tension can be equal to several tons that the strap and the cliffs have to keep. Furthermore tricks are also included in highlining such as ’surfing’ when the highliner swings the strap so that the strap moves a couple of meters up and down. The world record of longline is 500 meters and the world record of highline is walking 100 meters, 100 meters high from the ground.
